Hanif Fazal, DEI Leader

Since 2020, Clarity has worked with Hanif, a first-time author and the co-founder of the Center for Equity and Inclusion, to raise his profile and build his personal brand ahead of his book launch.

As a Brown father, community leader and visionary for a Black- and Brown-centered world, Hanif depends on Clarity for strategic storytelling, media outreach, conference/live event preparation, and support breaking through the noise on social media.

When he first reached out to Clarity, Hanif Fazal was well known in Portland circles for his leadership of the Center for Equity and Inclusion. He wanted to raise his profile regionally and on social media to help him secure a publisher and market his first book, a memoir and call to action that helps people of color imagine — and create — a world in which they not just survive, but thrive.

In weekly coaching and strategy sessions, Clarity’s co-founders helped Hanif identify the themes from the book that were most resonant for his target audience, hone his talking points, find speaking opportunities at conferences and on podcasts, strategically connect with other DEI leaders on social media, and earn coverage in regional and national news outlets.

During our partnership, he completed his manuscript; shopped the book to multiple publishers; persevered through rejection to find a publishing house aligned with his values, secured a book launch event at the premier local bookseller, Powell’s City of Books; and earned an advance blurb in Publishers Weekly.
