Linfield University, Communications & Media Relations

Over a span of more than two years, Clarity plugged in to the strategic communications department at this small liberal-arts college in Oregon wine country. Our team wore many hats, serving as the interim media relations lead, editor of the alumni magazine, and as a comprehensive communications presence for internal and external audiences while the university conducted a search for in-house experts to fill these roles. Among the highlights of this engagement were earned media coverage in national publications such as The New York Times, The Hechinger Report and The Wall Street Journal.

In a given week, Clarity might have been consulted on the strategy to respond to an evolving crisis on campus, then asked to craft the communication to address the crisis, and tasked with fielding media calls related to the incident. At the same time, our co-founders served as guest editors for the alumni magazine. Working remotely due to pandemic-era shutdowns, Clarity was responsible for assigning, editing and authoring stories for the Spring/Summer 2020 issue and collaborating with the university’s in-house design team to bring it to life.

Midway through the magazine’s development, the team scrapped existing plans to accommodate developing news stories such as COVID-19 and nationwide protests demanding racial justice. The result was a timely, thought-provoking read that served as a keepsake edition for the Linfield community.
